A freebie, sometimes called a lead magnet, is the small, free thing you offer in exchange for someone's email address. Done well, it's the first step of a relationship. Done badly, it's another PDF sitting unopened in a downloads folder.
Solve one problem, not ten
The best freebies are small and specific. A five-minute audit, a checklist or a short training that gets someone one clear win beats a fifty-page ebook every time. When people get a quick result, they trust you with the bigger one.
Make it point towards your paid work
Your freebie should solve a problem that sits right before the problem you are paid to solve. If you help coaches with their backend, a freebie that shows them where their time is leaking leads naturally to a conversation about fixing it.
Give it a name people want to click
- Say exactly what they get, like "The 5-Minute Website Audit"
- Promise a specific result, not a vague feeling
- Keep it short enough to finish in one sitting
Don't stop at the download
The freebie is only the beginning. A short series of welcome emails that share more value and invite a next step is what turns a download into a client. Without it, most people simply forget where they found you.
Look at the question clients ask you most on discovery calls. Answer it really well, for free, and you have your next freebie.
